After traveling to Kenya to collect his late brother’s body for burial, a Tanzanian man shared a heartwarming story about learning that the remains had been inadvertently freed and interred in a different country.
The bereaved family member came to the morgue at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) expecting to take his brother home to Tanzania for a respectable farewell, Kenyan news website Tuko reports.
According to media reports, when he received the shocking news that his brother’s remains had reportedly been switched and buried in Nyamira County, the family was left feeling distressed, confused, and grieving all over again.
The man went to the Milimani Law Courts to request legal orders for the body’s exhumation in Nyamira because he was determined to find the truth and restore dignity to his brother’s last rites.
Before making any decisions for repatriation, he asked that DNA testing be done to verify the remains’ identity. The court granted the application and permitted the exhumation of the remains interred in Nyamira County on December 30, 2025, according to a rulling made by Magistrate Paul Mutai.
