
According to authorities, a person sprayed bear spray on a train compartment in Union Square on Sunday night, affecting eight passengers and sending four of them to hospitals.
The victims were located just after 9:30 p.m. by police who were responding to a complaint on the southbound No. 4 train at 14th Street-Union Square. While half of them were carried to a hospital and were presumed to be unharmed, the other half declined medical assistance at the scene, 4 NBC New York reports
The New York Police Department said they are searching for a man in his 30s who is wearing a camouflage ski mask. He allegedly sprayed the irritant, raced upstairs, and then fled the station, disappearing into the street. Before the event occurred, the suspect might have argued with someone else on the train. Details are not clear.
