With an amazing 72 hours, Kenyan environmental activist Truphena Muthoni set the record for the longest marathon hugging a tree.
“The first attempt was a statement, a way to reintroduce humanity to the Earth through a simple, intimate act,” Truphena, 22, who started her own project called Hug the Earth, told Guiness World Records.
According to her, It was a commitment on the second attempt. She came to see that the world needed more than symbolism—it needed perseverance, consistency, and evidence that protecting the environment is a long-term endeavor. She did it again to demonstrate that taking action on climate change is a continuous duty rather than a one-time occurrence.
Truphena, who also serves as an ambassador for the 15 Billion Trees Campaign, claimed that she gained a lot of knowledge from her initial experience, which enabled her to persevere much longer the second time.
