

In order to control internet gaming, the Indian Parliament passed the internet Gaming Bill 2025. The law seeks to regulate both free-to-play and paid platforms. The law intends to safeguard users, prevent illegal betting, and raise financial transaction transparency.
According to Press Information Bureau (PIB), on August 21, 2025, the Parliament passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, which is a historic step to promote and regulate different types of online games while protecting citizens from the threat of online money games. Addiction, financial loss, and social suffering brought on by predatory gaming platforms that profit from false promises of rapid prosperity are the goals of this law. The government’s determination to protect families while directing the digital economy toward secure and beneficial expansion is reflected in it.
Regardless of whether they are skill-based or chance-based, the bill outlawed any online money games in which users stake money in their expectation to earn money.Fantasy cricket and other money-making gambling and betting apps,rummy and poker apps are banned by the government for a number of reasons, including public health and safety, fraud and money laundering, addiction and financial loss, and legal loopholes.
Platform operators might be fined up to ₹1 crore and imprisoned for up to 3 years. Promoting such platforms puts influencers and celebrities at risk of two years in prison and fines of up to ₹50 lakh.Both in physical and digital realms, the Bill gives authorities the authority to search and seize without a warrant.
By encouraging social gaming and e-sports as healthy digital entertainment options,an Online Gaming Authority will be set up to manage infrastructure, industry support, and policy.
