Honor killings occur often in India, as they do in Pakistan. In India, honour killings have become a social problem. Honor killings are cruel and despicable acts of murder, according to the Indian Supreme Court. However, incidents of this nature are becoming more common. Girls and young couples account for the majority of the casualties.

Family members were enraged by the marriages made on the basis of caste or religion, and they have no regrets . Even their father and brother murdered their daughter and son in law in the name of preserving the family’s honour. The judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Courts expressed their dissatisfaction with the situation from time to time.Honor killings have occurred in nations such as India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, England, Brazil, Ecuador, Egypt, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Morocco, Turkey, Sweden, and Uganda, according to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights.

Honor killings occur when a person is accused of bringing shame to his or her family by refusing to marry, committing adultery, or being in a relationship that the family does not approve of. Honor killings are common in Haryana, the Delhi outskirts, Western Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, and parts of Rajasthan. Honor killing is a big concern in Islamic countries. Khap panchayat is a mediaeval institution that split individuals into clans, according to scholars. They aim to resolve conflicts among their members on a regular basis. Same-gotra (clan) marriage is forbidden in Khap panchayat.

Same-gotra (clan) marriage is disallowed in Khap panchayat. As a result, when boys and girls from the same caste fell in love or married, the girl’s family members killed her or her “love interest” or both of them for the sake of the family’s honour.Politicians from different political parties have also backed the khap panchayat for political compulsions.
