A badger was found hiding inside a campus storage closet on March 12, prompting California’s Madera Animal Control Officers to react to an extremely uncommon plea for help at Madera High School.
According to the social media post of Madera police department, while our officers handle a wide variety of calls, wildlife incidents like this are extremely rare. Situations involving wildlife are governed by specific state regulations regarding the capture and relocation of animals, which is why we rely on trained wildlife professionals for assistance.
The post further said, we would like to extend a special thank you to Dan Fidler, a biologist with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (Fresno Unit), who responded to assist despite being hours away when he received the call. With his expertise, the badger was safely captured and removed from the location.
The Madera police department also extends thanks to the school personnel for helping in resolving the issue and for their collaborations with agencies such as Fish and animals, which contribute to the safe handling of animals and public safety.
