After becoming lost on a “shortcut” and falling from a tree, a Washington state hiker survived to survive for almost a week in the woods.
According to a Facebook post from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), authorities responded to a 911 caller who said they heard a voice requesting assistance from the Suquamish forests at around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday. “A faint, distressing voice coming from the woods saying he had fallen from a tree” was heard by the sheriff’s deputy upon his arrival, according to the agency.
In an effort to find the hiker, teams from the Suquamish Tribal Police Department, Olympic Mountain Rescue, Washington Explorer Search and Rescue, Kitsap Search Dogs, and KCSO swiftly sent out first responders to the scene, Fox News reports
After a six-hour search, the man was found and taken on a stretcher out of the woods, according to police. The Suquamish Police Department reported that the lone hiker told first responders that he hitched a ride to the end of a road before getting lost and starting to trek into the woods.
