Deep in the eastern Tibetan mountains, in Zuoba Village of Rojin Township, Zogang County, there lies an ancient vine that has survived four centuries.
This vine which is currently 416 years old, was formally recognized by Guinness World Records on September 21 as the oldest wild living vine.
With a root girth of 209 centimeters and a trunk diameter of 67 centimeters, the vine reaches a height of almost eight meters.
It was first discovered in Changdu City during the third survey of significant and old trees. Later, using physical measures and ring analysis, researchers from Southwest Forestry University’s Wood Science Research Laboratory in China verified its age.
