Many used syringes that unidentified people had stuck into a park tree have recently been removed by the Neukěn district office in Berlin, Germany.
Authorities in Neukňn were alerted to a picture of a tree in Volkspark Hasenheide that was full with syringes after it was posted on Instagram. The Public Order City Council ordered the syringes to be taken out of the trunk, The Berliner News reports.
“Unlike other districts also burdened by the use of illegal drugs, there is not one or a few focal points in Neukěn,” said Hannes Rehfeldt (CDU), the district’s social councillor.
According to the report, syringes can be safely disposed of without being removed due to special syringe-dropping containers that the district has placed in a number of green spaces in recent years.
