According to the sheriff’s office, a guy from Flagler County, Florida, United States, was caught driving backwards along State Road 100 last week, which led to an interesting encounter for law enforcement.
The incident happened on March 13 after many callers reported spotting a silver sedan driving in reverse in the eastbound lanes of the highway, according to a statement from the deputies, clickorlando.com reports.
The car “spun right round,” according to deputies, and was stopped close to Airport Road when they followed it to a Panda Express parking lot.
The release reads the vehicle had a technical problem, the driver, William Murphy III, 47, of Palm Coast, who “thought the best option” was to drive it backward to AutoZone, the release reads
Murphy claims in body-camera footage made public by the sheriff’s office that the car was stuck in reverse, even though he didn’t think it was a crime.
After being taken into custody, Murphy is now charged with habitual driving while his license is suspended. Later, a $1,000 bail was used to released him.
But sheriff’s office said Murphy already has more than ten convictions for driving a car suspended licence.
