
A dog that was walking with his owner in the morning recently strayed onto the pond and slid through a thin layer of ice close to the middle.
According to the Misquamicut Fire Department Facebook page, the Westerly Police Department, the Westerly Ambulance Corps, Inc., and the Misquamicut Fire Department, Rhode Island, United States, were sent to Little Masachaug Pond off Atlantic Avenue for a water rescue shortly before nine in the morning.
Within minutes, volunteers arrived on the scene and found Phoenix, a golden retriever, floundering in the water and unable to safely move with his owner on land.

While other team members prepared equipment, including an inflatable rescue boat, members of both fire departments swiftly donned ice rescue suits and entered the water, performing a speedy and successful rescue. After being returned to shore safely, Phoenix and the rescuers were all doing fine.
