Nearly a kilometer from the shore, an elephant seal was seen on May 27 morning, strolling the streets of Gordon’s Bay near Cape Town,South Africa. When stunned locals first spotted the enormous aquatic animal at six in the morning, they immediately started recording the strange sighting.
According to Cape Argus, the clearly exhausted seal was shown in pictures and videos posted online moving slowly on asphalt roads. It even supported its upper body on a parked car before accelerating forward.
The Cape of Good Hope SPCA personnel reached Sir Lowry’s Pass Road, where the animal had settled in a residential area, by 8 a.m. Immediately, efforts were taken to guarantee the seal’s protection and eventual translocation.
The Cape of Good Hope SPCA’s Chief Inspector Jaco Pieterse later safely returned the animal to its maritime habitat.
