The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has received an open letter from Indy, the highly acclaimed dog star of the horror movie “Good Boy,” requesting that the organization take animal actors into consideration for its prestigious acting categories, Variety reports.
Distributed by independent film studio IFC, the letter takes a lighthearted but incisive stance in support of four-legged performers who have historically been shut out of Hollywood’s greatest night.
In the letter, which Variety exclusively obtained, Indy states, “Despite my critically acclaimed role in the recent film ‘Good Boy’ — I have been deemed ineligible for the Best Actor category.” “Apparently, I am not a good enough boy for you.”
Variety informed that “Good Boy” opened to $2.2 million, the studio’s second-best opening weekend ever, marking a big box office success for the IFC. The only film that did better for the studio was “Late Night with the Devil,” which brought in $2.8 million in 2024.
