Cameroon Violence in a Nutshell

Unrest began in Cameroon in November 2016 when teachers and lawyers in the English-speaking northwest and southwest began calling for reforms and greater autonomy.

Along the northern border with Nigeria, Boko Haram has been active.In the  English speaking northwest and southwest regions where complaints by teachers and lawyers about the negligence of English speaking territories and  ‘influence of the French language’ escalate armed conflicts between separists and Cameroon military.

Soon,separatists declared the independence and  formed the Republic of Ambazonia in two English speaking regions  and asked the Cameroon  military to surrender and join them or leave their ‘independent’  territory. But the Paul Biya led government  always emphasized that the government is opposing any form of separation and consider Cameroon is an undivided country.

But separatist groups are adament and declared that they are  only ready to dialogue with Paul Biya if the government agrees to their separation demand.

Both government and separatists are adamant and stick to their respective demands. So violence continues unabated in the English speaking regions of Cameroon.
