
The Deccan Plateau in Maharashtra, India, is the origin of the Banjara Hound or Vanjari Hound. These dogs, which were bred by the nomadic Banjara people, were essential to hunting and developed a strong attachment with their human companions.
Male Banjara Hounds weigh between 27 to 31 kg ( 61 and 70 pounds), while females weigh between 23 to 27 kg ( 52 and 61 pounds). Males are 27 to 29 inches (69 to 74 cm) tall, while females are 25 to 27 inches (63 to 69 cm) tall, average lifespan 12 to 14 years.The short, smooth coat of a Banjara Hound can be black, white, brown, fawn, or brindle.
The Banjara Hound is a loyal and friendly breed that develops strong bonds with its owners. They make ideal guard dogs since they are vigilant and intelligent.They are pleasant to children and other pets if they socialize early.Being a highly active dog breed, the Banjara Hound needs a lot of exercise. As a low maintenance dog breed, then need minimum grooming.
