
Further details about the horrifying crime was made public on July 28, as an Illinois man who reportedly shot and killed his daughter-in-law during a wedding in the Chicago suburbs over a divorce filing made his first court appearance.
The Schaumburg Police Department has accused Stillman Valley resident Roland Schmidt, 76, with first-degree murder. Schmidt showed up for a detention hearing on July 28 at a Rolling Meadows courthouse, according to a statement from the Schaumburg Police Department.
A shooting was reported in the parking lot of a Marriott Hotel located at 50 N. Martingale Road on July 25 at approximately 10:15 p.m., according to the announcement. Officers discovered 45-year-old Christine Moyer of Galena, Ohio, near the hotel’s front entrance, shot in the head, 5 Chicago reports.
Moyer, who is married to Schmidt’s son, was shot in the head by Schmidt, who was also at the wedding, as she was leaving the hotel, according to detectives. The inquiry found that Schmidt was angry with Moyer because of divorce papers that were filed against his son on July 8.
