A New Zealander had a “large machete” concealed under his clothing when he showed up at a woman’s Waihī home, Hauraki District in the North Island of New Zealand to retrieve $20 he said he was owed.
Asking what was going on, her visiting ex-partner knocked on the rear door.
According to the local media, after taking out the machete, the accused man Christopher Millen repeatedly swung it, slicing the man’s stomach.
Millen then fled and spent five months hiding in the Athenree Gorge’s bush. While there, he set up a “heavily camouflaged” improvised camp and took from a nearby property a sheep, tools, ammo, and a weapon.
In August 2024, Waihī police arrested Millen after locating the encampment and enlisting the assistance of the Armed Offenders Squad, Special Tactics Group, and police helicopter.
The Tauranga District Court sentenced the 48-year-old to six years in jail on July 16 after he entered a guilty plea and accepted an earlier sentence indication.
