A Gardena ( California) police officer rescued an abandoned puppy who was whining inside a self-compacting trash can. The dog was eventually adopted on Christmas Eve.
According to spcaLA South Bay Adoption Center, the police officer heard faint moans and whimpers while he was passing the garbage can outside a nearby church, ABC7 Los Angeles reports.
The officer found a tiny, 1-year-old Terrier mix dog inside the container when he opened it. The dog now named as Flan had been discarded like trash.
After the officer made contact with Gardena Animal Control, Flan was sent to the spcaLA South Bay Adoption Center, where it received food and medical attention.
The police officer who saved Flan took his family to the adoption facility on Christmas Eve, where Flan was eventually adopted and given a forever home.
SpcaLA said, surveillance cameras were installed outside the church where the garbage can was located, but the police were not given access to the film.
