In India, exotic pets such as snakes, iguanas, tortoises have gained popularity. While it is allowed, both captive-bred and wild-caught animals trade are expanding rapidly.
Experts say that when a wild animal is maintained as a pet, its requirements cannot be fully satisfied. The space and independence that they would enjoy in the wild cannot be replicated in a home.Their natural habitats are much larger than the spaces in which many are kept.Exotic Pets frequently don’t get the proper diet.
Though in India, the commercial trade in exotic reptiles through CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) is permissible, legal requirements and specialized care should be carefully considered before adopting exotic pets in India and obviously understanding the environment and nutritional requirements of these exotic animals, as well as how to care for them.
