A Joint Team of UNMISS and CTSAMVM Visited opposition-controlled area of Li Rangu in South Sudan

A joint team from the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM) visited the opposition-controlled area of Li Rangu in South Sudan’s Equatoria region, where they met with opposition military commanders.

A meeting in Li-Rangu, and a discussion focused on protection of civilians and implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) signed in Addis Ababa, in September last year.

The members of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army – in Opposition (SPLA-iO) said they are disappointed that South Sudan’s political leaders are not working hard enough for peace. 

Commander Futiyo also called for the unifying of all the forces in South Sudan – which is part of the provisions of the revitalized peace agreement.

The UNMISS’ political affairs officer in Yambio said the priority of the mission to Li Rangu was protection of civilians. 

The UNMISS Gender Affairs Unit organized a one-day workshop for over 100 women, sensitizing them on Chapter 4 of the revitalized peace agreement, which guarantees 35% of women’s representation in leadership positions.

With just over three weeks to the November 12 deadline for the formation of a transitional government, South Sudanese are waiting anxiously for durable peace to return to their country, so that women like Johnita can return to normal life~UNMISS
