Authorities say a man on the Gulf Coast of Florida killed, roasted, and consumed two of his pet peacocks, leading to charges of animal cruelty.
On a third-degree felony allegation of aggravated animal cruelty, Craig Vogt, 61, of Hudson, Florida, was taken into custody last week, according to an affidavit from the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, WPLG Local 10 reports.
Vogt admitted to detectives that his neighbour had been feeding the two peacocks, so he had murdered them. The affidavit did not specify the number of peacocks he kept, but it stated that he had written the neighbour a letter threatening to kill his pet peacocks if she continued to feed them “to prove a point.”
According to the affidavit, Vogt “admitted to killing the bird by cutting the bird’s neck out of spite, then bleeding it out, and then later eating the bird after cooking it on a frying pan.”
