
Two stores denied booze to a Newzelander who had brain damage from a vehicle accident because they believed he was intoxicated.
According to local media,after being struck by a car in 1994, Grant Pratt sustained a traumatic brain injury that affects with his ability to walk, balance, and speak clearly. These impairments cause him a great deal of annoyance because people tend to think he is drunk.
But after being turned away twice at two different Countdown shops,New Plymouth,he decided that enough was enough and filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission, claiming that his disability was being unlawfully discriminated against.
His suit was dismissed by the Human Rights Review Tribunal, however, since supermarket employees at two distinct locations on two different days thought he was intoxicated and inaccordance with the rules and regulations under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act.
